Aqua PA to Improve Service, Safety

Water main & fire hydrant replacement projects underway to improve service and safety for Luzerne County

Aqua Pennsylvania crews are replacing nearly 9,600 linear feet of aging water mains in East Union Township and Penn Lake Park Borough. Aqua is upgrading these aging pipes with ductile iron water mains, which are more durable and comprised of nearly 90% recycled materials. As part of these projects, nine fire hydrants will also be replaced to ensure performance in the event of a fire.

This effort highlights Aqua Pennsylvania’s commitment to replacing pipes that are at the end of their service life as part of our ongoing infrastructure improvement program.

“This project is just one example of our commitment to timely replacement of aging infrastructure. It will help ensure that our drinking water flows reliably, not only for customers, but also for emergency responders in the event of a fire.” said Aqua Pennsylvania President Marc Lucca. “I’m proud to highlight these upgrades in service and safety for our neighbors in Luzerne County.”

In the Eagle Rock community in East Union Township, crews are replacing nearly 7,400 linear feet of aging water main with new 8 and 12-inch ductile iron water mains and replacing nine fire hydrants on the following streets:

  • Jahanna Circle (8-inch main)
  • Turnberry Lane (12-inch main)

Crews also replaced 2,200 feet of aging water mains with new 6-inch ductile iron on the following streets in Penn Lake Park Borough:

  • Williams Drive
  • Horseshoe Drive
