Aqua Pennsylvania Celebrates Project Milestone at Crum Creek Water Treatment Plant

Upgraded infrastructure will enhance drinking water quality benefitting Delaware County residents for decades

Aqua Pennsylvania announced today it reached a milestone in the $14.3 million construction project at its Crum Creek Water Treatment Plant in Springfield. With a turn of a valve, a new concrete pretreatment sedimentation basin was placed into service. This comes less than a year after Aqua Pennsylvania broke ground at the Delaware County plant. Work continues on additional upgrades to the mechanical and electrical equipment in the three existing basins. The combined upgrades will improve service and water quality.

“The improvements and investments made to Aqua’s Crum Creek plant exemplify our mission to provide safe, reliable drinking water to our customers,” said Aqua Pennsylvania President Marc Lucca. “The upgrades here at Crum are vital to our commitment to the communities we serve, not only strengthening service but also supporting a healthier, more sustainable future for generations to come.”

The source of drinking water in our region comes from rain running into streams, rivers, lakes and recharging our groundwater. In its natural state, this water is unsuitable and even unhealthy to drink without treatment. The new pretreatment sedimentation basin that is now operational at Crum Creek Water Treatment Plant enhances the necessary treatment and complies with regulations. In the end, the drinking water flowing out of this plant and into homes and businesses is of the highest quality.

“It takes months of planning and coordination from a team of dedicated employees to successfully execute these projects and make them a reality,” said Lucca. “I am proud of the work we accomplish day in and day out to maintain and improve this essential system of infrastructure.”

The total project at Crum Creek Water Treatment Plant is expected to be completed in 2026 and is the latest example of Aqua Pennsylvania’s ongoing commitment to its customers. In 2024, Aqua Pennsylvania invested more than $338 million in capital improvements, with plans to invest approximately $1.85 billion through 2029.
