Since 2021, Aqua Pennsylvania has secured nearly $160 million in PENNVEST funding; part of company’s commitment to provide safe drinking water and reduce associated customer costs.

Aqua Pennsylvania announced today it secured a combination of principal forgiveness loans and low-interest loans through the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST). Funding totaling $6.1 million will support Aqua Pennsylvania’s continuing commitment to remove PFAS from drinking water. Another $1.3 million in funding will be used for Aqua Pennsylvania’s ongoing lead service line replacement program. PENNVEST funds allow recipients like Aqua Pennsylvania to affordably meet state and federal regulatory requirements.

“Aqua Pennsylvania is committed to working within the PENNVEST guidelines to receive funding opportunities that allow us to cost-effectively deliver high-quality drinking water,” said Aqua Pennsylvania President Marc Lucca. “These infrastructure upgrades are crucial to our delivery of safe, reliable drinking water to our customers today and for years to come.”

PFAS Treatment Systems

More than $6 million in PENNVEST funding will support 4 PFAS treatment installation projects at community well sites in Bucks and Chester County. The PFAS treatment systems will positively impact nearly 3,000 customers in the following communities:

BUCKS COUNTY

  • Chalfont Well 14, Chalfont Borough

CHESTER COUNTY

  • Willowdale Crossing Well, East Marlborough Township
  • Franklin Well, Franklin Township
  • Highland Glen Well, West Whiteland Township

Construction on these treatment facilities is expected to be completed in fall of 2026.

In the last 4 years, Aqua Pennsylvania has worked diligently to secure $156 million in PENNVEST loans and principal forgiveness loans for infrastructure improvement projects. More than $56 million in funding has been awarded for PFAS treatment projects. This support has helped Aqua Pennsylvania to add PFAS treatment to 26 wells across the Commonwealth.

Aqua Pennsylvania is in full compliance with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) PFAS drinking water standards and on track to meet federal standards as well.

Lead Service Line Replacements

Aqua Pennsylvania secured more than $1.3 million in funding from PENNVEST that will go toward the replacement of 200 customer-owned lead and galvanized service lines in Bristol Borough and Bristol Township, Bucks County. Customer-owned service lines are the pipes running from approximately the curb line to homes and businesses. Aqua already treats drinking water to prevent lead leaching from pipes into the water, but replacing these aging pipes is an extra step in reducing the risk for customers.

The lead service line replacement project in Bristol is currently underway and is estimated to be completed in early 2026. The replacement is done at no direct cost to the customer. A warranty is also provided on the completed work.

Since 2023, Aqua Pennsylvania has secured $5.6 million in PENNVEST loans and principal forgiveness loans to replace customer-owned lead and galvanized service lines throughout the state.
