July 21, 2024 -- Aqua Illinois has successfully repaired a water main break on a transmission main leading to the water tower, which had impacted the water recharging process in Hawthorn Woods. While water service was not disrupted to customers in the Village of Hawthorn Woods, Village of Kildeer, and Lake County, a 24-hour water boil advisory has been issued as a precautionary measure. Aqua is currently conducting water testing, and the advisory will be lifted once samples are confirmed safe. Customers in the affected areas are advised to use boiled or bottled water for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation. To boil water, bring it to a boil for five minutes and let it cool before use. We will provide updates directly to customers regarding the lifting of the Boil Water Advisory through our WaterSmart Alerts. Customers can sign up for WaterSmart Alerts by visiting the link below.

January 2, 2025 -- Aqua North Carolina will be flushing water mains in Bayleaf Master water system from January 6, 2025 - April 11, 2025. Customers may search by address or zoom in to view details when flushing is planned in their area. Status updates will be provided on the map as inclement weather could impact the schedule.

Aqua Pennsylvania continues to monitor the situation in Abington Township following the fire at SPS Technologies in Jenkintown. We are aware that some customers may have noticed their water appears slightly cloudy. Please know, the water is safe to drink. The pipes in the streets that deliver drinking water to our customers’ homes are the same pipes that service the fire hydrants used to battle the warehouse fire. The prolonged, intense movement of water used to fight the fire may stir up sediment in the pipes which can lead to cloudiness in the drinking water. This should clear up in a matter of days. We thank our customers for their patience and understanding.

Aqua Marion, Ohio customers: Taste and Odor Issues: Updated Wednesday, December 17 at 2:30 p.m. EST

Advanced analysis of samples collected from the Marion water system have confirmed earlier evaluations that the compound causing taste and odor issues was geosmin, an organic compound that is detectable by humans at extremely low levels often resulting in smells that people describe as “earthy.”

There are no health concerns related to geosmin at detected levels and water from the system can be used normally. There is no need to boil water.

When the odor was detected over the weekend, operators changed the source water mix entering the plant and enhanced the water treatment process with carbon to better absorb the odor.

The odors are expected to dissipate over the next few days as the geosmin migrates through and out of the Marion distribution system. Above-freezing temperatures are allowing crews to open select fire hydrants in the system to flush the compound from water mains during daytime hours. This will expedite purging the geosmin from the system.

Once the geosmin has dissipated, customers may still detect odors especially those that are more sensitive to smells. Heating the water can increase the intensity of the smell. Customers may choose to run their hot water for several minutes to help remove the compound from water heaters.

For more information customers can visit the disruption map page or call Aqua customer service at 877.987.2782.

Over the weekend, operators at Aqua’s Marion water treatment plant detected an organic odor in the water entering the plant. The compound is not considered a health threat but may result in taste and odor issues.

In response, operators changed source water mix entering the plant from river water to primarily well water. Some river water is still being used to meet supply demands. Staff also enhanced the water treatment process to better absorb the odor and have increased water quality testing.

The odors are expected to dissipate over the next few days.
