August 2, 2024 -- Honesdale, PA customers -- Aqua Pennsylvania crews are aggressively responding to an equipment failure in our Honesdale service area which is causing issues with discolored water. Our test samples show there is no danger in drinking the water.If customers experience discolored water, the following steps can be taken: Let the water run for 5 minutes to see if it clears OR DO NOT use the water for 45 minutes to see if the water clears. If desired, bottled water is available for customers in the affected area on weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. at Aqua’s Administrative Office 1775 N. Main Street, Honesdale, PA 18431. We advise customers not to launder clothes until the issue is resolved. As of Sunday, September 15th at 5 p.m., Aqua Pennsylvania is lifting a Boil Water Advisory in place since Friday, September 13th impacting more than 1,100 customers in the Mercer community served by the Shenango Valley Water System. Customers can resume normal use of water after our test samples showed no danger to drinking water in this area. Aqua Pennsylvania continues to monitor the situation in Abington Township following the fire at SPS Technologies in Jenkintown. We are aware that some customers may have noticed their water appears slightly cloudy. Please know, the water is safe to drink. The pipes in the streets that deliver drinking water to our customers’ homes are the same pipes that service the fire hydrants used to battle the warehouse fire. The prolonged, intense movement of water used to fight the fire may stir up sediment in the pipes which can lead to cloudiness in the drinking water. This should clear up in a matter of days. July 1, 2026 -- Aqua New Jersey Issues Mandatory Conservation Notice, Irrigation Schedule to Customers in Woolwich Township

Due to drier than normal weather conditions in New Jersey, Aqua is encouraging customers in Woolwich Township, Gloucester County to conserve water and adhere to an irrigation schedule along with limiting non-essential outdoor water use. This announcement comes as a Statewide Drought Warning from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection remains in effect.

All customers in Woolwich Township are asked to comply with the following schedule for non-essential outdoor water use and irrigation:

• Building and Construction Efforts: Monday and Thursday
• Even-numbered addresses Commercial/Residential (0, 2, 4, 6, 8): Tuesday and Friday
• Odd-numbered addresses Commercial/Residential (1, 3, 5, 7, 9): Wednesday and Saturday

Some other helpful tips on reducing water use include:

• Don’t leave the water running when brushing your teeth or shaving.
• Take showers, not baths: Showers are more efficient and use less water. The shorter the shower, the better. A 10-minute shower uses half the amount of water as a full bathtub.
• Cut back on rinsing dishes. Scrape off the food and let the dishwasher do the rest. Only run the dishwasher when it is full.

To be clear, Aqua monitors and manages our water supplies actively every day, and we are confident in being able to supply our systems, but we are issuing the conservation notice as a precaution. While we cannot predict how long the dry weather will continue, our operations, environmental and compliance experts plan for this type of weather event with our customers in mind. Aqua’s drought team will continue to monitor the situation to ensure continued service and reliability. September 14, 2026 -- Aqua Pennsylvania has issued a precautionary water conservation notice to customers in Shenandoah Heights due to a pump issue causing low pressure. Aqua customers in the affected area are advised to reduce non-essential water use until further notice. Crews are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. Until repairs are completed, customers may experience low pressure. We thank our customers for their cooperation and understanding.

August 3, 2026 -- Aqua Pennsylvania’s Shenandoah operations recently violated a drinking water requirement. Although this is not an emergency, as our customers, you have a right to know what happened, what you should do, and what we did to correct this situation. Coliforms are bacteria that are naturally present in the environment and that are used as an indicator that a potential pathway exists through which contamination (including potentially harmful, waterborne pathogens) may enter the distribution system. We detected total coliform bacteria twice within a rolling 12-month period in our distribution system. 

As a result, we were required to conduct a detailed Level 2 assessment of our system within 30 days. A Level 2 assessment is a detailed study of the water system treatment and distribution to identify potential problems and determine (if possible) why total coliform bacteria have been found in our water system. We failed to conduct the required Level 2 assessment within 30 days and have therefore violated a drinking water requirement. 

All samples collected since the event have shown no presence of total coliform bacteria in the water system. There is no evidence that the water system is experiencing a contamination problem, and DEP has not required a boil water advisory or other immediate public health action.
