Upper Pottsgrove Wells

Superior Main Expansion Project

Aqua Pennsylvania serves more than 5,000 connections in Upper Pottsgrove Township, Lower Pottsgrove Township, Douglass Township (Montgomery County) and New Hanover Township.

We are developing additional sources for this system due to growth in the area, including a proposed development at 1491 Chestnut Grove Road in Upper Pottsgrove Township.  Aqua Pennsylvania understands residents in the area may have questions about the activities in the area, and we want to take every measure to communicate our actions.

Does Aqua have to approve the growth at Chestnut Grove Road?

No. Aqua is not a land use agency. This approval is reserved by Upper Pottsgrove Township. Aqua’s obligation is to serve drinking water in Aqua’s certificated service territories in compliance with the overlying land use jurisdictions.

What is happening at 1491 Chestnut Grove Rd?

In response to growth in the area served by Aqua’s public water system, Aqua has drilled and tested two new well sources for supply to its public water system. The testing occurred in Dec 2024 – Jan 2025 and no pumping activity has been taken at the site since.

If the development doesn’t go through, will Aqua still need the wells?

Yes, even though the wells are located within a proposed development, the water is needed to serve more than just that development. The additional wells will improve service reliability for existing customers, as well as ensure supply for any new growth in the area.

Will these Aqua wells take my water?

No, we are required by the regulating authorities that our actions cannot negatively impact any other water sources in the area. Based on our aquifer testing, we want to investigate any private wells within the red circle shown in the map below.

Will the Aqua wells affect the quality of my water?

No, there is no anticipated change in water quality to the surrounding area.

What happens if my well is negatively impacted by the Aqua wells?

Once the wells are permitted, we are required by the Delaware River Basin Commission to take action and address any sources directly impacted by our well. If your well has negative impacts, we will investigate and may propose options for resolving the problem.
